Toronto's
Most Trusted
Roofers Since 1987
Two generations of the Kowalski family putting good roofs over Toronto homes — through ice storms, July heat, and every November the sky decides to test us. 500+ homes. One standard.
Six trades.
One crew.
We don't subcontract. The guys who quote your roof are the guys who tear it off, lay it down, and clean up after themselves. Every service we offer, we do in-house.
Asphalt Shingles
Architectural shingles from IKO, GAF, and Owens Corning. Full tear-offs, ridge-vent upgrades, ice-and-water shield. Backed by manufacturer warranties up to 50 years.
Flat Roofs
TPO and EPDM membrane systems for low-slope residential and commercial. Heat-welded seams, proper drainage, and 25-year material warranties on most installs.
Roof Repairs
Leaks, missing shingles, flashing failures, vent boots. We'll find the actual problem — not just the wet spot on your ceiling — and fix it once.
Eavestrough & Gutters
5" and 6" seamless aluminum, fascia repair, downspout extensions, leaf guards. Cut to length on-site. Toronto rain comes hard — your eaves should handle it.
Emergency Services
Tree through your roof? Storm tore the flashing? We carry tarps, plywood, and the right insurance paperwork. Two-hour response across the GTA, 7 days a week.
Roof Inspections
Buying a house? Selling one? Insurance asking for proof? We climb up there, take photos, and write you a full PDF report. No upsell. Just the facts.
Three reasons your neighbours keep recommending us.
Two Generations Deep
Stan Kowalski started Summit out of his garage in Mimico in 1987. His son Dave bought the company in 2012. Same family, same standards. We're not going anywhere — and we don't need your job badly enough to cut corners.
Never Subbed Out
Every crew on every job is a Summit employee. Trained by us, paid by us, insured by us. The guy who measures your roof on Tuesday is on the ladder Thursday morning. Accountability you can name.
10-Year Workmanship Warranty
Manufacturer warranties cover the materials. Our warranty covers the install — which is where 90% of roof problems actually come from. Ten years, in writing, transferable if you sell.
Where we work.
Your roof is the only thing between your family and a Toronto winter.
Get a free, no-pressure estimate from the GTA's most-recommended roofing crew. Same-week appointments in most neighbourhoods.
Every roof. Every problem. Done right.
From a single leaking shingle to a full commercial tear-off, every service we offer is run by our own people. No middlemen. No sub-sub-contractors. No mystery crews.
Asphalt Shingles
Toronto's workhorse roof. We install architectural shingles from IKO Cambridge, GAF Timberline HDZ, and Owens Corning Duration. Every job includes full tear-off, new underlayment, ice-and-water shield in all valleys and 3' up from the eaves, and proper attic ventilation.
Flat & Low-Slope Roofs
Residential additions, garages, commercial properties — we install TPO and EPDM single-ply membrane systems with heat-welded or fully-adhered seams. Proper slope correction, tapered insulation, and code-compliant drainage. 25-year membrane warranties standard.
Roof Repairs
The vast majority of leaks come from three places: flashing, vent boots, or chimney counterflashing. We find the real source — not the wet ceiling spot, which is rarely directly below the leak — and fix it with the right materials. No silicone patches that fail in two years.
Eavestrough & Gutters
Seamless aluminum eavestroughs run on-site to the exact length of your house — no joints, no leaks at the seams. 5" residential and 6" oversized for high-volume rain. Includes fascia repair, soffit work, downspout extensions, and leaf guards if you want them.
Emergency Services
24/7 emergency response across the GTA. Tree damage, wind-stripped shingles, sudden interior leaks — we'll have a tarped, weatherproof temporary repair in place within two hours of your call. Permanent repair scheduled within the week.
Roof Inspections
Pre-purchase, pre-sale, insurance claim, or annual maintenance. We climb the roof (we don't inspect from the driveway like some), photograph everything, and email you a written report within 24 hours with our honest recommendations. Always free, always no obligation.
From "I need a roof" to "It's done."
You Call or Message
We pick up. Most calls reach a Kowalski directly — Dave or his nephew Jeremy. You tell us the issue. We listen.
Free On-Site Visit
We come out within 3 business days, climb up there, take photos, and email you a written quote within 48 hours. No deposit. No pressure.
Crew Arrives On Time
Your foreman calls the morning of. Two trucks, dump trailer, signage. Yards covered with tarps, gardens protected. You'll know we're there.
Walked Through The Work
Before we leave, the foreman walks you around the property, shows you the work, hands you your warranty paperwork. Magnetic sweep of the lawn for stray nails.
Ready to talk?
Free estimate, no obligation. We'll come out, climb up, and tell you exactly what you do and don't need.
A story about ladders, a Ford F-150, and not screwing it up.
Summit Roofing started in 1987 with one man, one truck, and a phone-book ad. Nearly four decades later, we're still small enough to care and big enough to do the job right. Here's how that happened.
Stan Kowalski emigrated from Krakow in 1979 with a roofer's hammer and not much else. He worked under three different GTA roofing outfits before deciding, in the winter of 1987, that he could probably do it better on his own.
He started Summit Roofing out of the garage of his Mimico bungalow with one extension ladder, a Ford F-150 he'd bought second-hand, and a quarter-page ad in the Etobicoke Yellow Pages. His first job was a tear-off in Long Branch for an old neighbour. He brought his eight-year-old son Dave along to hand him bundles of shingles.
Word got around. Stan was the roofer who answered his own phone, who showed up when he said he would, and who never billed for something he didn't do. By 1995 he had three crews running. By 2005 he'd done over 800 roofs in west-end Toronto without a single Better Business Bureau complaint.
In 2012, Stan handed the company to Dave. Not as a gift — Dave bought him out, with a 10-year payment plan and a handshake that meant more than the contract. Stan still drops by the shop on Tuesdays to drink coffee and tell the new guys they're holding their nail guns wrong.
Today Summit runs four crews and two estimating vans across the GTA. The phone still gets answered by a person. The work still gets done by people Dave knows by name. The standard hasn't moved an inch since 1987.
2012
Dave Kowalski
"My father started Summit out of his garage in Mimico in 1987 with one ladder and a phone-book ad. I grew up running shingles up to him on Saturdays — first as a kid trying to be useful, then as a teenager who didn't want to be there, then as a man who realized he actually loved it."
"In 2012 I bought the company from him. We've grown — 14 crew, two estimating trucks, real insurance, an office in Etobicoke that isn't a garage. But the rule is the same one my dad gave me when I was twelve: do the job like it's your own mother's house. Because half the time, it actually is — my mom's in Mississauga, and she's had three roofs."
"If you call this number, there's a good chance I'll be the one who picks up. If I'm not, my nephew Jeremy will be. We don't have a call centre. We have a shop, and we answer the phone."
Four rules. No exceptions.
Tell the truth, even when it costs us the job.
If your roof has three more years in it, we'll tell you. Even if we just drove an hour to look at it. Trust beats one quick sale, every time.
The quote is the price.
Unless we open up the roof and find rot the original inspection couldn't have seen, what we quote is what you pay. No "surprise" upcharges on day three.
Leave it cleaner than we found it.
Magnetic sweep of the lawn for stray nails. Tarped flower beds. Vacuumed gutters. If your wife notices we were there, we failed.
Answer the phone.
Including the one that rings at 2 AM with a tree through someone's bedroom ceiling. Especially that one.
Real roofs. Real Toronto homes.

Had Dave's team replace our shingles after that February ice storm did a real number on the back slope. They were the third company I called and the only one that didn't try to upsell me into a full re-roof when I really only needed two slopes done. Quoted what needed doing, finished a day early, and the lead foreman (Marco, I think?) walked my husband through everything they'd done before they left. Three Etobicoke neighbours have asked for the number this spring.
Emergency call on Boxing Day after a tree branch came through our living room ceiling. Summit had two guys at our house within 90 minutes with a proper tarp setup, then came back on the 28th to do the permanent repair once they could see the full damage. Final bill came in $400 under the original quote because the rafter damage was less than they'd feared. I don't know how often that happens with contractors but I'll never forget it.
We bought a 1962 bungalow in Scarborough last year knowing the roof was a problem. Dave himself came out for the inspection — I'd been expecting a salesperson. He talked us out of the full $18,000 replacement we thought we needed. Said the south slope had another 5–7 years if we did targeted repairs and added proper attic ventilation. Saved us close to $9,000. Whole season later — including that wild September storm — not a single leak. We'll be calling Summit again when the time actually does come.
Flat roof replacement on a small commercial property I own near Liberty Village. TPO membrane, full tear-off, new tapered insulation. These guys ran a clean job site — pylons, signage for my tenants, daily debris pickup, the works. Job took 4 days, exactly what they quoted. Foreman sent me drone shots of the finished roof, which was a nice touch I didn't expect. Will use again for the second property next year.
Good experience overall — eavestrough replacement on our North York semi. The work itself is excellent, very neat, no leaks at the joints, and the price came in fair. Knocked off one star only because scheduling got pushed a week due to weather (totally fair on its own, just the communication on the delay could have been a bit faster — we found out the morning of the original date). The actual install crew was great. Would still recommend to a friend.
Third roof I've had Summit do over the years. First one was for my parents' place in 2009. Then my own house in Etobicoke in 2017. Now my daughter's first house in Mississauga. Same family business, same standards, three different decades. Dave's father Stan was the one who did my parents' place back when. Now it's Dave running the show, and his nephew Jeremy doing some of the estimating. There's a reason I keep calling them — they've never given me one to call anybody else.
Asked for quotes from four roofers for a cedar shake replacement on our High Park century home. Summit wasn't the cheapest (a guy from Brampton was about $4K less). But Summit was the only one who showed up with physical samples, explained the difference between western red cedar and #1 blue label, and didn't try to pressure me into a decision in my driveway. Ended up going with them. Roof looks incredible — neighbours stop and stare. They also cleaned up so thoroughly my wife thought they'd never started until she looked up.
Booked Summit for a roof inspection before we closed on a house in The Beaches. They found two issues the home inspector had missed entirely — a flashing problem around the chimney and rot in the eaves on the north side that wasn't visible from the ground. Dave wrote up a detailed PDF report with photos that I used to negotiate $7,500 off the closing price. The inspection itself was free. I'll think about that one for a long time. We had them do the repair work the following month — same level of care.
